DESIGN MUSEUM

16/02/2005 | Various

Design Museum, LondonThe Design Museum of London is a must visit. You can find great pieces of graphic and industrial design. They have a huge catalog of information design where is possible to see, for example, subways maps from many cities in the world, including a copy of the map of Buenos Aires subway in 1967. Some of the amazing objects are the Graffiti Machine of Lehni and Franke, a original set from the movie "2001: Space Odissey" of Stanley Kubrick, designed by Harry Lange, classic chairs, like the recent "Aeron", designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. As an opposite to that chair, you can see the "Statement chair" of Mart Guix, a simple plastic garden chair with a legend that says "Stop discrimination of Cheap furniture!".

Also "The Last Clock" of Jussi ngeslev and Ross Cooper, cars and classic oldies video games consoles (availables to play), between various remarkable objects.

Some cites you can find in the stairs between every floor are:

"To create, one must first question everything".
Eillen Gray
"Progress mean simplifying, not complicating".
Bruno Munari

The museum, like the Tate Modern, is placed at the coast of the Thames river.

KEVIN SPACEY IN LONDON

16/02/2005 | Various

Kevin Spacey
This is the only one notice that has no relation with design, photography or this site. Today I had the chance to see in theater, a huge actor like Kevin Spacey, at the play "National Anthems", in the london theather directed by himself, the prestigious "Old Vic".
Unforgettable.

TATE MODERN

Tate Modern Museum
One of the works that attracts me from the incredible Tate Modern museum in London, was "Raw Materials" of Bruce Nauman.
Along all the Turbine Hall there's speakers that reproduce individual recordings that was taken out of the original context. Going through all the room being rounded by all those sounds, is a great experience.
The text of one of the recordings, in a disturbing beautiful female voice says:

"There is no reaction of instinct to physical or mental threats
You can't reach me
you can't hurt me
I can suck you dry
You can't hurt me
You can't help me
Shuffle the pages
Find me a line
Arapahoe, Arapahoe
Where did you go?
I blink my eyes
To keep the time
I don't sweat
I have no odor
I inhnale, don't exhale
No urine
I don't defecate: No excretions of any kind
I consume only
oxygen, all foods, any form
I see, hear
I don't speak, make no other sounds
you can't hear my heart, my foot steps
No expression, no communication of any kind
An observer, a consumer, a user only
My body absorbs all communications, emotions, sucks up heat and cold
Super reptilian soaking up all knowledge, compactor of all information
Not growing
I feel don't touch
I have no control over the kinds and qualities of thoughts
I collect, I can't process
I can't react to or act on sensation
No emotional response to situations"

At the museum website, there's a simulation of this instalation, made it in Flash. You can see it here.
